Remarks |
I witnessed and recorded a rare, long-duration atmospheric entry event in the daylight sky over the New York City area. I was driving southbound on the Major Deegan Expressway at approximately 6:09 PM when I saw a bright glowing object moving from my right to my left across the sky at a shallow, slightly downward angle. The object was glowing brighter than a streetlight and clearly visible against the daylight sky, which is extremely unusual. The object left a glowing trail and appeared to be producing its own light (not just reflecting sunlight). The event lasted for nearly 2.5 minutes continuously, which is far longer than a typical meteor or fireball. I captured the entire event on video with live human reactions. It did not fall straight down but traveled horizontally across a large portion of the sky before fading out. This event lasted far longer than a typical meteor or fireball (nearly 2.5 minutes, in daylight). The shallow trajectory, sustained glowing, and horizontal travel suggest a possible space debris or comet fragment re-entry. I captured the entire event on video, including human reactions. This occurred over the New York City area, making it extremely rare to document. I am willing to provide the full video footage for analysis. |
