Reports Report 940a (Event 940-2026)

Observer
Name Christoph L
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks The observation time is estimated. I made a "control" photo @ 23:58 CET, but the observation was 1-2 minutes in advance. I was sitting in the car facing ~310° NW, after watching the G4 Geomagnetic storm previously. The object was seen in my peripheral view, directly above, coming down in "a straight line". Therefore the start elevation is estimated. The trail looked at first like a regular shooting star, but brightened up @~50° Elevation till the end. The color was blueish, white-ish, maybe some yellow, but my memory is not clear at this 100%. First i thought it looked like an inverted firework rocket with some magnesium flare appearance. The brightness evaluation is very difficult for me to describe. At least it brightened up on the way down, and held this level till the end. Along the "flightpath" 1 hour in advance there were the greenish punchholes of the geomagnetic storm visible. Maybe the residual charge in the Ionosphere blasted up a regular shooting star.
