Remarks This event, while being decades ago was probably the most spectacular astronomical event I have ever witnessed. I should also point out that I have extremely sensitive vision. It was a calm clear night with no clouds in the sky. I was sitting on the front steps having a cigarette when out all of a sudden, a brilliant bright purple streak raced across the sky to my left lighting everything so brightly for just a second with what I can honestly describe as purple sunlight. It went as quickly as it came. Just a purple flash that lit up my neighborhood. There was no contrail, or fragmentation or sound. But I will never forget that streak. As it occurred my eyes instantly reacted and looked directly toward it. It did not appear to change trajectory. It just faded away. But when it passed, it was so bright. A purple flash. It seemed to be a large object but I think that was because the light obfuscated the actual view. I watched the skies for an hour after I finished my smoke in the hopes that I would see more. I did not.
