I was looking toward the moon which was south/southwest around 11pm at an object moving in the sky (perhaps an airplane) and suddenly saw a bright flash from a different object just to the west of what I was initially watching. It had no trail and disappeared after about a second or less. May have seen it straight on since no trail or arc to it. Just a very bright flash brighter than any star in the sky, like a camera flash.
