The steady rumble while outside is what caught my attention first, making me think what jet or loud plane is taking off at our regional airport miles away this late at night. So I looked at flight aware app and no planes. Heard the sound before seeing the meteor. While looking up a satellite caught my attention and as I was watching the satellite, I noticed this huge bright light coming toward us in the sky, almost like an airplane as it’s passing above but much larger than airplane light and definitely was not the space station. (After it disappeared I even checked the Spot the Station app, and the space station was not visible, but this was much larger and not moving in the path like the space station normally does so I knew it wasn’t that.)
What stood out to me was it was a huge ball of light coming toward us slowly and gradually getting lower, and lasted definitely more than five seconds before disappearing. The rumbling sound and the angle we saw it stood out to me the most, and it disappeared with 2 to 3 bright lights next to it for a second in the sky almost directly above us, just past our backyard.
My husband was on our porch which is has a ceiling and I was describing to him what I was seeing and talking about the sound we heard as it happened. So cool and so wild! |
