Reports Report 4974g (Event 4974-2026)

Observer
Name Jonathan C
Experience Level 1/5
Remarks We were in a car on Route 80 driving east and I am quite unsure as to our exact orientation at the time of the fireball. It could have been East-NE or Northeast. I didn't look at a compass, and the road has some bends, and I'm not sure which stretch we were on. I am much more confident about elevation, angle swept out, etc. than I am about the direction.

Persistent train
Observation Yes
Duration 0.5s
Length
Remarks The train got broader as the fireball moved from right to left across my field of vision, so it was fattest at the end right before the final "pop"
Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks The "flash" was pretty minimal, but I did have the distinct impression that there was a "pop" at the end (a visual pop; I didn't hear anything because I was in a car with windows rolled up, on a highway)
Fragmentation
