Remarks | I've seen Perseid meteor showers before, and this fireball was HUGE compared to those. It almost looked like a firework in its size, but was falling way too fast and had no trails (and no fireworks - lol). I wasn't able to see any fire from the explosion since the tree line hid it, but the sky lit up significantly after it appeared to have hit the ground. I was driving and the only one in the car at the time. I was heading north on the Garden State Parkway around exit 48, and happened to look to my left (west) when I saw it falling. It stuck out to me because it was so large and so green -- I had only seen small white shooting stars before. The explosion was also something I had never seen before. I called my husband to tell him what I just saw, and he subsequently called the NJ State Police, but they didn't seem to be interested in checking anything out. |
