I first observed this out of the corner of my vision on the R, was a compact and very bright white head with distinct orangish trail. I pulled over to shoulder of highway and the object was then nearly straight ahead of me and had fragmented into at least 7 additional fragments that paraded across in parallel with the main object. Tails of each were by then white. I then watched it proceed to the North by northwest horizon with additional fragmentation and blurring of main object. all of which lasted at least 1 1/2 to 2 minutes.

See above. I saw at least three times that fragments appeared to calve off the main object. It is not clear to me whether the main object survived the entire transit or not because it did get quite indistinct toward the horizon.
