| Remarks | Before I got to Charlottesville I noticed some type of aircraft that I thought was a helicopter but it had two (2) forward white lights on it. It did seem to display normal red flashing navigation beacons as I have seen on other aircraft. I am also a Private Pilot so my thinking was, the pilot of this aircraft had to have seen this Fireball and if it did impact, he should have seen that location as well. |

| Remarks | The Fireball came all the way down to the horizon and actually disappeared below the tree line. It was at this time I saw the Terminal Flash in the sky. I was sure it had hit the Earth! |

| Remarks | Just prior to going below the treeline you could see it was coming apart and getting wider. As it fell below the treeline or appeared to do so, I could see another bright flash that filled the sky just about in that area, which is why I would have sworn it had ground. About 7 or 8 miles further on I could smell what I took to be gunpowder. It could be possible that was car exhaust. |
