Reports Report 1336am (Event 1336-2015)

Observer
Name Howard B
Experience Level 3/5
Remarks Before I got to Charlottesville I noticed some type of aircraft that I thought was a helicopter but it had two (2) forward white lights on it. It did seem to display normal red flashing navigation beacons as I have seen on other aircraft. I am also a Private Pilot so my thinking was, the pilot of this aircraft had to have seen this Fireball and if it did impact, he should have seen that location as well.

Terminal flash
Observation Yes
Remarks The Fireball came all the way down to the horizon and actually disappeared below the tree line. It was at this time I saw the Terminal Flash in the sky. I was sure it had hit the Earth!
Fragmentation
Observation Yes
Remarks Just prior to going below the treeline you could see it was coming apart and getting wider. As it fell below the treeline or appeared to do so, I could see another bright flash that filled the sky just about in that area, which is why I would have sworn it had ground. About 7 or 8 miles further on I could smell what I took to be gunpowder. It could be possible that was car exhaust.
