| Remarks | I tried to estimate the measurements at the time, but I didn't look at the clock and I tried to estimate it from my arrival home.My wife set me straight on the time and It is close to correct. It is worthwhile mentioning that there was a line of hills which raised the horizon by perhaps 5 degrees or so. My observations were from the raised horizon. I found that the appearance of the tail was remarkable because of the narrowness of the tail compared to the fireball, but I guess the distance was a factor. I have seen a couple of other fireballs in the last 80 years. The first one was in the winter of 51 -52 I think, and left a horizontal trail right across the sky. It's long enough ago that you aren't interested, but it made a big impression on me - a teenager at the time.. That one had a broad tail that was definitely blue. |

| Remarks | the trail was very narrow compared to the ball itself. There was a flash after the ball disappeared below the horizon- maybe 6 degrees according to the time of passage. The sky was brightened horizontally for 15 - 20 degrees.I say yes below, but only because of indirect light. |
| Terminal flash | |
|---|---|
| Observation | Yes |
| Remarks | As I said above the flash was about 6 degrees below the horizon. I estimated this from the time I saw it to the time it took to the horizon to the time of the flash below the horizon. There was a very noticeable brightening of the sky over the horizon 2 or 3 times. I was driving in the car at the time and was facing almost toward the event. |
