I was responding to a Fire Alarm as the Deputy Chief of a municipal FD in North Jersey, Bergen County, in my Chief Vehicle. I saw it as I approached the intersection as selected in the previous pages. The area I was at is of higher elevation from the rest of the town so I noticed it as I pulled into the intersection. For the record, my emergency flashing lights were not yet activated as I was responding to a nuisance alarm that we had previously just responded to an hour ago. If my emergency lights were on, I probably would not have noticed it. I am relatively good with observing in general and as soon as I saw it, I had that 'gut' feeling it was not normal. I responded to the call and I told a few of the guys there about what I saw and I had no believers. I called into the police desk and they had no received any phone calls, so I choked it up as unknown, my mind was playing tricks. The night was especially clear over North Jersey. It was more green-ish with a hint of blue in color and not completely vertical, but not close to horizontal at all. Looking at the map and direction it was reported in Vermont, that was the exact direction in the sky I saw it. I know the time I saw it also because our dispatch time (which is recorded electronically and recorded over the radio when I respond) was 0047hrs. Which makes sense it took me about 3 minutes to get my shoes on, get in my truck and drive from my house to the point at which I saw it. JH |
