It went (in seconds) like looking like a shooting star (which I have observed a few times) to an actual flaming object that someone had tossed from above the skyscrapers. I thought that if I could reach my hand out and grab it I would pull back a cylindrical flare in my hand, maybe with a small brick attached to.
I was driving a car approaching an intersection with no traffic so was able to stop completely & observe. I noted the time on the dashboard clock and knew it was just minutes after I sent a text message at 10:33 before leaving a parking lot. The car radio was playing & gps voice instructions so I may not have heard if there were any related noises.

Remarks
When I first saw it it looked like a shooting star. Then it ignited into yellow/orange flames with a red tail and a square black/brown object in front of the flames. Then it flared brighter and the tail seemed to fall into the flames then suddenly disappeared.
