My dad, Rog Gerling, loved meteor showers. He got me and my brothers up to see the famous 1966 Leonids meteor storm. We witnessed it at about 3 a.m. in Kansas City—one of the great meteor-viewing events of the 20th century. We saw a constant stream of meteors that night, including meteors coming straight at us, and numerous meteors simultaneously. Since then I've taken photos when there were big showers or storms, especially Leonids showers. I've included photos of one of these meteors, taken on November 19th. 2002, during that Leonids meteor storm, 36 years after the 1966 storm.
