I have been doing astrophotography for about 2 years now (since 2020). I started with a DSLR and tripod and quickly advanced through several pieces of equipment up to a fully automated narrowband rig. During some of my sessions I started using another tripod, camera and fast lens and took several exposures in hopes to capture meteors with a wide angle lens. I did captures a few and it got boring just looking at a few small stationary steaks. It was also a lot of added work. So I made an allsky camera with an allsky lens using a planetary cam and automated software. It was much easier and very hands off once it was set up and working well. Again this was just pictures and sorting through 300+ images to identify meteors vs satellites was still more work than I wanted to do. I ended up capturing a good fireball that left a smoke trail and then got hooked on the idea that it made more sense to capture them with video using automated detection. And now here I am with a system designed for just that.
