More than 340 reports

The AMS has received over 340 reports so far about of a rare daylight fireball event over seen over North Carolina on September 8th, 2016 around 6:03pm EDT (22:03 UT). The fireball was seen primarily from North Carolina but witnesses from Virginia and South Carolina also reported the event.

Trajectory

The preliminary estimated trajectory plotted from the witness reports shows the meteor was traveling from the north east to the south west and ended its flight near Enfield, NC.

    Several of our soccer players say it between 5:30-6 in Chocowinity NC.

      I was waiting on a granddaughter to finish soccer practice and saw the fireball. I was located in Kernersville, NC.

    As traveling on 15-501N in Durham, NC almost crossing over I-40, I saw the fireball. My cellphone time was 6:03 pm.

    While driving north on 15-501 I saw the fireball. I was near Chapel Hill/Durham line.

    I was leaving out my drive way in Salisbury N.C when I seen the fireball
